DEAR EDITOR: I agree with your article about agencies using magnesium chloride to de-ice their roadways. It is terrible stuff.
It may make the roads safer to travel on, but it sure does a number on your car, the garage floor, and all the junk tracked into your house. It may be cheaper for the agencies but it costs every car owner plenty in car washes, cleaning the garage floors, etc. I have also read research somewhere that it obscures the pavement markings and makes them less visible and almost useless before the gunk is worn off or washed off.
Good for countries that have banned the stuff.
