Dear Editor,
With the personal attack against me being leveled by the Aurora Police Association (APA) and the Aurora Firefighters Local 1290, some of my supporters have mistakenly blamed the Police and Fire Departments for that vitriol. I want to make it clear that any anger should be directed only at the union leadership that chose this low course of action.
These attacks have created a backlash against our public safety professionals that’s misdirected and inappropriate. There is an important distinction between our fire and police departments and the membership organizations that represent those employees. Our police and fire departments are among the best in the nation. We owe a debt of gratitude the men and women that put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. And management within the police and fire department has shown a high level of professionalism and leadership over the years.
I think it is important to make this relevant distinction and avoid defining entire departments for the actions of the APA and the Fire Local 1290 leadership decisions.
Sincerely,
Bob LeGare, Aurora City Councilman At-Large

If they are among the best in the nation move them into to top 3 in pay in the state instead of 14th in the metro area. Parker police and fire pay more than Aurora.
It’s nice to hear the police and fire departments are appreciated, but they’ve been screwed over for years doing the job that a Buffalo and St Louis does with half the people. Similar populations btw.
The city routinely touts the great job public safety does but treats them as second class citizens compared to all other city employees when it’s time for raises.
Maybe this is why they are not support Mr. Legare.
