DENVER | Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette is plunging into the gun control debate with new legislation to ban high-capacity magazines.
DeGette introduced the proposal Thursday. The Democratic Congresswoman’s district includes the site of the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School. It is also adjacent to last year’s Aurora movie theater shooting site. In both of those attacks, the shooters’ rifles were modified with high-capacity magazines. Those devices allow attackers to fire dozens of bullets without pausing to reload.
DeGette co-authored the bill with New York Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, whose husband was killed in a 1993 mass shooting on the Long Island Railroad.
Gun control backers hope last month’s Newtown massacre may lead to more action on firearms. But odds are against the magazine legislation passing the Republican-dominated House of Representatives.

According to FBI crime statistics, far more people are murdered with clubs and hammers than with rifles. In 2011 rifles accounted for 323 Murders, but hammers and clubs accounted for 496 murders. Guess we should ban hammers and clubs.
In 2012 Chicago had 60 children murdered. It is one of the most heavily gun controlled cities. How hard is it to understand, gun control does not work.
Diana DeGette should be arrested for treason. It is an act of war to willingly disarm the people and prevent them from defending themselves. At the very least, arrest her for perjury. She took an oath to uphold and defend the constitution on the US. Actively trying to remove the 2nd amendment is far from upholding the constitution.
Diana DeGette should be arrested for treason? Don’t you think that is a bit over the top?
Why should citizens own magazines that hold 30 to 100 bullets?
Everyone can readily defend themselves with magazines that hold
10 bullets.
Assault weapons were designed for the military. If you are a
hunter, do you really need 30 to 100 bullets to kill prey?
Our 2nd amendment is not for hunting, its not for home protection, its to there to protect us from tyrannical governments. Our founders put in the 2nd amendment to protect citizens if the government became corrupt. Well regulated means to properly conditioned and well maintained. That means having the best arms available for citizens to protect themselves. Look how many millions have been killed in the last century from genocide because citizens of other countries did not have the means to defend themselves.
Yes, she has committed an act of treason. Yes, she should be arrested. She took an oath to defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic. Sadly she has become an enemy to the constitution and to the people.
The argument against marijuana, for years, was that it is a “gate way drug”, leading to use of harder drugs. I believe this is generally true, or not! My point is that making new laws regulating magazine capacity to 10 rounds or less, is much the same argument. It will be a creeping disease, from one level to another regarding gun ownership. Next it might limit the right to purchase ammo on the internet, or limit the transport by UPS (USPS will not deliver ammo now), who knows what the anti-gun folks might conjure up. I believe the problem is not the weapon, but the person. We do need better ways to identify and limit people with mental problems. I’m sure this would involve doctors and mental health care providers. This will create problems, but I believe we could solve many of them.

Reading comprehension 101. He said FBI crime statistics. https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-8 See for yourself before calling names. Rifles vs blunt objects. His numbers were accurate.
