PROVIDENCE, R.I. | At least three performers remain in critical condition following a circus accident that occurred in front of an audience full of children.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused a support frame to collapse Sunday during the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey “Legends” show in Providence, Rhode Island.

The accident occurred during an act in which the circus says eight performers hang “like a human chandelier” using their hair.

A Rhode Island Hospital official says three performers were in critical condition Monday morning. Two were listed in serious condition, while three were listed in good condition.

The names and conditions of three others injured in the accident haven’t been released.

The circus canceled two shows scheduled for Sunday and two more scheduled for Monday.
