INKSTER, Mich. | A funeral has been held for a woman deemed the world’s oldest person who died at her suburban Detroit home at age 116.

Jeralean Talley died June 17 at her home in Inkster after a hospitalization for fluid in her lungs. Talley turned 116 last month.

The Detroit Free Press says about 250 people gathered Saturday for her funeral at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Inkster.

The Rev. Rita Talley says her aunt “walked with God,” and that’s what she would want for her mourners.

Talley was born in Montrose, Georgia, in 1899 and moved to Michigan in the 1930s. Talley’s husband Alfred died in 1988 at 95.

The Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group says the oldest living person now is 115-year-old Susannah Jones of Brooklyn, New York.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Talley died Wednesday, instead of June 17.
