AURORA | Police say an unidentified woman was shot and injured last night, apparently near the Aurora GEO ICE immigrant detention facility in northwest Aurora.
Officers were called to an undisclosed location on Nome Street in northwest Aurora at about 7:30 p.m., Aurora police spokesperson Katie Fisher said in a statement.
“One person, an adult female, suffered non-life threatening injuries and a person has been detained in connection with the incident,” Fisher said. “We do not believe there is any additional threat to public safety.”
Another police spokesperson told the Denver Post the shooting was near the GEO ICE facility, which is at 3130 Oakland St.
A regular weekly protest in front of the detention center was in progress at the time of the shooting, according to protest leaders.
Police did not say if the shooting was linked to the protest or the GEO ICE facility and that an investigation is ongoing.
