A woman accused of stabbing her aunt to death last week at an apartment near the Aurora border is due in court next week.
Nakia Pratt, 27, is due in Arapahoe County District Court for a hearing on June 26.
According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Pratt was arrested June 16 on a first-degree murder charge after investigators say she stabbed her aunt to death during a dispute at an apartment complex near Parker Road and East Florida Avenue.
In a statement after the slaying, the sheriff’s office said Pratt had been staying at the apartment with another aunt when Pratt got drunk and started causing a disturbance. The aunt called a second aunt to help her calm Pratt down and a physical altercation ensued.
During the feud, deputies say Pratt stabbed the second aunt, killing her. She then fled the apartment and the sheriff’s office said investigators found her outside the apartment complex covered in blood.
She was later charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Arapahoe County Jail, where she remained this week without bond.
According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Pratt has been arrested in the metro area before on charges including assault, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.
