AURORA | An unexplained fire Sunday night caused major damage to a house in central Aurora, forcing two people from their home, but no injuries were reported, according to Aurora Fire Rescue officials.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 8 p.m. to a house in the 2600 block of South Troy Court.
“A resident reported hearing a loud noise and smelled smoke inside their home,” Aurora Fire Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst said in a statement. “They were unable to find the source as smoke began to fill the house and they evacuated.”
Once outside, they could see smoke coming from roof vents on the house and called 911.
Fire crews reported heavy smoke in the neighborhood even before they got to the house, Hurst said.
Firefighters searched the house and opened the attic, where they found fire that had charred roof trusses. All occupants were accounted for, and crews confirmed no one was inside the home.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 8:30 p.m., Hurst said.
The home sustained major fire, smoke and water damage and the two occupants could not return to the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
