AURORA | Two separate shootings in Aurora about 12 hours apart resulted in two men walking into the emergency room at University Hospital on the Anschutz campus with serious gunshot wounds.

The first incident started early Sunday morning with reports of gunfire near East 23rd Avenue and Dayton Street. Neighbors said that at about 4 a.m., several shots were fired by people on foot or in cars. A short time later, a man entered the University Hospital emergency room with a serious gunshot wound to the leg.

Police said the man is in critical condition as of Sunday night.

At about 6 p.m. Sunday, another man walked into the emergency room at University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. That man told police he was sitting in a car at East 13th Avenue and Moline Street when he was approached by a man he didn’t know and shot.

Police said the shooter was described as a Hispanic male, medium build, mustache and 5 feet 10 inches tall. The man was wearing a gray shirt at the time of the shooting, police said.
