AURORA | A double shooting Friday morning in south Aurora left one man dead and another injured.

Police said they responded at 7:15 a.m. to a report of a shooting at 3991 S. Espana Way and found a vehicle that had hit a tree and a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital and later died.

Shortly after the first man was noticed, a second man with a gunshot wound approached officers; he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Arapahoe County coroner’s office identified the deceased man late Friday as Steven Edward Slack, 33. The coroner said he was shot multiple times and died of a gunshot wound.

Investigators say the shootings took place at 19471 E. Navarro Place, in the same neighborhood.

Two nearby Cherry Creek schools — Sunrise Elementary and Horizon Middle School — were placed on secured perimeter as officers responded to the area.

APD’s Major Crimes/Homicide Unit are handling the case. Detectives do not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting beyond the two men.

Police are asking anyone with information on this case to call Agent Mike Prince with the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit at 303-739-6127.
