AURORA | A man and woman are in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night near the Anschutz Medical Campus.
According to Aurora police, the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on the exit from Interstate 225 to East 17th Place, just east of the campus.
Police said a man, who may have been drunk, exited the highway but slammed his car head-on into a concrete barrier.
The man and his female passenger were rushed to a hospital where they were in critical condition Wednesday morning. Police said the pair’s condition is critical but they will probably survive.
Police said that in addition to alcohol, excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.
The names of the two people involved have not been released.
The intersection was closed for four hours while police investigated.
