AURORA | Two construction firms have submitted proposals for designing, building and financing the Interstate 225 FasTracks light rail project in Aurora, Regional Transportation District officials said Thursday.
RTD board members are expected to make a decision on whether they’ll accept either proposal on July 17.
The companies that submitted proposals are Kiewit/RBC and Balfour Betty-Ames, both of which are currently working on other RTD projects, said Tom Tobiassen, RTD board member whose district covers Aurora.
“This is great news that RTD has received bid proposals from two very qualified and high quality companies with deep roots in Colorado,” Tobiassen said in an email. “Extending the I-225 light rail line north through Aurora toward the Asnchutz campus is important for the region and I look forward to examining the innovative ideas these companies bring to the table.”
RTD officials will now work on evaluating the proposals before the July 3 FasTracks Monitoring Committee meeting, said Pauletta Tonilas, FasTracks spokeswoman.
The Request for Proposals process began early May and ended at 3 p.m. June 14.
