Police have arrested two men in connection with a July 4 shootingof an Aurora pastor.

Christian Venegas-Silva, 19, and Ricardo Telles, 24, were arrested Tuesday in Aurora, police said.

Both face attempted first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery charges, police said.

The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. July 4 when the pastor, 51, pulled into a parking lot at Colfax and Nome Street, police said.

Seconds after the pastor parked, two people approached the truck and attacked him. The pastor fought back and the fight spilled into the parking lot, where police say one of the suspects shot the pastor in his leg.

The suspects fled the area and were last scene a few blocks north near East 19th Avenue and Peoria Street, police said.

Investigators identified Venegas and Telles as suspects after receiving tips from people who saw media reports about the shooting.

The pastor, whose name has not been released, is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
