The gunman burst into a Planned Parenthood clinic Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, and opened fire, launching several gun battles and an hours long standoff with police as patients and staff took cover. The gunbattle ultimately claimed the life of one officer and injured a total of five, the highest police casualty count in a single incident in the U.S. in two years and a reflection of the danger that mass shootings pose to police. A man accused of killing three people at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic is set to learn the charges he will face in the attack.
Prosecutors will announce the charges filed against Robert Lewis Dear during a court hearing Wednesday in Colorado Springs.
Investigators have refused to disclose a motive for the shooting, but there’s evidence to suggest the 57-year-old was deeply concerned about abortion. He rambled to authorities about “no more baby parts” after his arrest and asked at least one person for directions to the clinic before opening fire there Nov. 27.
