AURORA | Swallow Hill Music will offer music classes at the Colorado Free University’s Lowry campus starting in March, officials from the Denver music school announced Thursday.
Swallow Hill Music officials signed a lease with CFU for access to three classrooms on the university’s ground floor. Starting this spring, that space will host music classes for adults, kids and groups. Children’s music courses like Little Swallows and Little Mozarts will follow the model of popular classes currently offered at the school’s Denver location.
The announcement caps a long search for administrators from the 34-year-old music school, who’ve been looking to add a satellite campus at Lowry for more than a year. Early plans for a Swallow Hill space at the Lowry Town Center stalled because of concerns from neighboring businesses about noise and crowds.
Swallow Hill Music CEO Tom Scharf said in a statement the music school found a perfect fit with CFU, which started in the 1980s with affordable education as its core mission.
“We are all about building community through music, and I can’t think of a better place to open our next satellite location,” Scharf said in a statement. “Additionally, we are pleased to be on the same campus as Colorado Free University. They are a great match for us, as CFU also focuses on life-long learning.”
Since opening in 1979, Swallow Hill Music has grown into one of the Denver metro area’s largest music schools and performance venues. Swallow Hill’s facility on Yale Avenue in Denver features three concert venues that host about 300 performances a year. The school employs more than 60 faculty members and serves about 5,000 students annually.
