AURORA | Police say they’ve identified and arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a man found lying on west Aurora sidewalk Sunday morning.
Colorado Springs Police, working with Aurora police, arrested Armanni Woods, 31, Sunday, Aurora police said in a statement Monday. Woods will be booked and held in the El Paso County Jail until he is transferred to Aurora, police said.
A man not yet identified was found lying on an Aurora sidewalk at the intersection of East Warren Avenue and South Galena Street Sunday at about 7:30 a.m. by someone who called police.
When officers arrived, they said the man was fatally wounded by gunfire, possibly hours before someone called police.
“Officers quickly determined the male, 49, had a gunshot wound and had died before first responders arrived at the scene,” Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement. “Investigators believe the shooting occurred hours earlier.”
The man will be identified by coroner officials at a later date.
Booking details were not immediately available from Colorado Springs police or the El Paso Sheriff Department.
Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
