AURORA | A 128-page state doctors’ report on James Holmes’ sanity is complete and available to prosecutors and the defense. In a notice filed Friday and released Monday, Judge Carlos Samour said officials from the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo sent him an encrypted copy of the report last week.
The report will remain sealed and won’t be available to the public, Samour said in his notice.
Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in June and was sent to the state mental hospital for evaluation. The report was initially supposed to be complete by the end of July, but Judge Samour granted hospital officials an extension that gave them until Sept. 16 to complete their work.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 and injuring dozens more in a shooting rampage last year in an Aurora theater.
He is due in court Sept. 30 and his trial is scheduled for early next year.
