AURORA | Ten people were forced from their Aurora home early Friday after a back porch caught fire, ignited by someone smoking, according to Aurora Fire Rescue officials.

Firefighters responding to a smoke alarm activation to a house in the 4600 block of South Ivory Circle at about 5 a.m. reported visible fire and smoke coming from the rear of the house, Aurora Fire Rescue spokesperson Samantha Hickerson said in a statement.

“Crews quickly got water on the fire and prevented fire from spreading into the living spaces of the residence,” Hickerson said.

All 10 occupants in the house got out before firefighters arrived. One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and no other injuries were reported.

The fire caused “extensive” damage to the back porch of the house, and investigators said the fire was caused by “smoking materials.”
