COLORADO SPRINGS | State Sen. Bernie Herpin says he didn’t mean to worsen the pain of the Aurora theater shooting victims when he said it might have been a “good thing” that the shooter had a 100-round magazine that jammed

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (https://tinyurl.com/m3h2jfu ) Herpin apologized Thursday for the comment he made a day earlier at the Capitol in Denver.

The Colorado Springs Republican was defending his bill to overturn a ban on the sale of high-capacity magazines.

A Democratic lawmaker had asked Herpin if the ban would have prevented theater shooting defendant James Holmes from buying a 100-round magazine. Herpin replied that if the shooter had several 15-round magazines, he might have done more damage.

He said Thursday he was making the point that the gun laws haven’t been effective.
