AURORA | Parts of E-470 were closed early Monday after a semi-trailer truck caught fire near East 26th Avenue.
Aurora and Sable Altura fire departments were called to the highway at about 5 a.m. after reports of a truck on fire, carrying a load of acai berries.
The cause of the fire was not known early Monday.
“The fire crews collaborated to prevent the fire from spreading and reaching the E470 bridge,” Aurora Fire and Rescue officials said in a statement.
The interstate was closed for about 30 minutes.
“Because there are few hydrants in the area, the crews conducted a water shuttle operation,” officials said. “This involved releasing water from a large tank into a portable tank, from which a fire truck then drew water to supply the hose lines for fighting the fire.”
The impromptu tanking allowed firefighters to extinguish the burning truck and prevent a diesel fuel spill.
Fire officials said Colorado State Patrol will lead an investigation into the fire.
