AURORA | The Salvation Army Intermountain Division is gearing up to serve more than 3,000 people in the Denver metro area this Thanksgiving, offering hot meals, food boxes, and more to anyone in need who wants one.
With a mission to combat hunger and homelessness, The Salvation Army shelters between 1,700 and 1,800 people each night and provides more than 3,000 meals daily. This Thanksgiving, the organization will expand its outreach with several community initiatives:
- Aurora Community Meal: A hot meal for 400 will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at the Aurora Corps, 802 Quari Court, near Peoria Street.
- Thanksgiving Food Boxes: Distributed via drive-thru at The Salvation Army’s Denver Citadel at 4505 W. Alameda Ave., Denver, and Red Shield Corps locations, 2915 High St., Denver.
- Hot Meals for Seniors: Nearly 50 meals will be provided to residents at Denver Silvercrest, 4595 W Alameda Ave. in Denver, a senior living community, and an additional 50 meals will be distributed to neighbors near the Red Shield Corps.
Thanksgiving preparations begin early. Major Nesan Kistan, Intermountain divisional commander, will join volunteers at 4:30 a.m. at the Denver Harbor Light Center, 2136 Champa St., Denver, to pack thousands of meals for transport.
