AURORA | Two local schools are taking extra precautions after a reported mountain lion sighting Wednesday morning near East Arapahoe Road and Parker Road.
Julie Brooks, a spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County sheriff’s office, said deputies received two separate reports of a mountain lion sighting near Broncos Parkway and Parker Road.
The first call came in at 8:50 a.m. and the second at 9:15 a.m.
Deputies located some tracks that could be from a mountain lion but have not been able to confirm whether they were a mountain lion or not.
The sightings caused officials at the Cherry Creek School District to send a “Robo-call” to parents of Endeavor Academy and Red Hawk Ridge Elementary School students, according to Tustin Amole, spokeswoman for CCSD.
Amole said recess was held indoors at Red Hawk Ridge this afternoon. The school will also assign additional staffers to supervise students who walk home after school, which lets out around 3:30 p.m.
Cherry Creek officials first learned of the potential presence of a mountain lion after an elementary school student reported seeing a large cat on this morning’s bus ride to school, according to Amole.
Jennifer Churchill, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, did not return multiple requests for comment.
