DENVER | A Democratic state senator who backed a package of gun control measures this year will find out soon whether a recall effort against him has succeeded.
Opponents of Senate President John Morse of Colorado Springs are expected to turn in petition signatures to state officials Monday in an effort to force a new election. Democrats hold a slight registration advantage in the district, but recall supporters say they’re confident they will have enough petition signatures to recall the powerful senator.
Recall efforts against two other Democrats in the Legislature have already fizzled. Gun-rights activists are seeking to recall fourth Democrat, a senator from Pueblo. Signatures in that effort aren’t due until next week.
The Colorado Secretary of State has 15 business days to verify signatures.
