AURORA | A man convicted of giving alcohol to a 19-year-old Aurora man who jumped to his death last year at a Greeley fraternity has been sentenced to probation.
Kyle Edward Riley, 23, of Longmont, was sentenced Tuesday to two years supervised probation, 200 hours community service and 60 days wearing an ankle monitor. He was also ordered to take a class on “making positive choices,” prosecutors said.
A jury convicted Riley in June of providing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor.
Prosecutors say Riley gave 19-year-old Ross Higuchi several shots of alcohol and a bottle of wine during an initiation party at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity at University of Northern Colorado on April 15, 2011.
After a dispute with fellow fraternity members, Higuchi leapt from a balcony, police said. Higuchi, a Smoky Hill High School graduate, died a few days later.
