AURORA | The search for a man suspected of shooting at police last week ended Friday when Denver police shot the man following a high-speed chase in Aurora.

Larry Gomez, 33, is expected to survive his injuries, police said, and will likely face several charges stemming from multiple incidents last week.

According to a statement from Aurora police, Denver officers were doing surveillance Friday on a man suspected of shooting at a police in Denver and Westminster last week following separate traffic stops.

Around 6:30 p.m., the undercover officers followed a car that drove up to a home where the officers were doing surveillance. The car headed west on Interstate 70 into Aurora and police identified the driver as the suspect in last week’s shootings.

When the car reached I-225, police believed the suspect knew he was being followed and officers tried to pull him over. The man sped away, and exited the highway at East Iliff Avenue only to immediately get back on the highway headed northbound.

The driver lost control near East Florida Avenue and crashed. Three Denver police cars also crashed.

After the crash, police at least one Denver officer shot the driver, who was later identified as Gomez. After a brief foot chase, police arrested Gomez behind 1640 S. Abilene St.

Police said that once Gomez is released from the hospital, he will be taken to a Denver jail. He faces several charges in Denver, including attempted murder of a police officer, as well as charges in Aurora and Westminster, police said.
