DENVER  |  An investigation is underway after police in Commerce City shot and killed an armed suspect following a chase and car crash.

Commerce City police were responding to a report of shots fired Friday morning when they saw the suspect flee and then crash his car into another vehicle. Mayor Benjamin Huseman tells The Denver Post the suspect and officers exchanged gunfire, but police would not confirm that he fired a weapon.

The suspect, whose name and age have not been released, died at the scene. Investigators have not said what kind of weapon he was carrying.
