AURORA | Police are asking the public to help identify a woman who shattered the front door of the Centennial Animal Services in an apparent attempt to break in.

“She walked up to the front door with her dog and tried to get in, but the door was locked,”  a statement from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said.

She began knocking loudly as she paced back and forth. This continued for about 30 minutes as she became increasingly irritated while knocking harder. She appears to get upset, walks back to her car and retrieves a tire iron from the trunk.”

The security video shows a 25-35-year-old white female with dark blonde hair, between 5’6” and 5’9”, knocking on the door. She then walked back to her silver or gray four-door sedan while holding a light-colored Labrador retriever mix dog on a leash.

“She initially tries to pry the door open, but when she is unsuccessful, she hits the glass door with the tire iron until it shatters,” the statement said. “She then attempts to make an entry but is unsuccessful.”

After breaking the first set of locked doors, she pulled the dog on the leash with her over the broken glass. She then attempted to open the second set of locked doors and looked around the inside before eventually turning around and leaving with the dog.

The woman was wearing a pink shirt or tank top with black pants or leggings, and she had on sunglasses.

The incident began at about 7 p.m. June 27,  and around 7:40 p.m., the woman walked out, got into her car and drove away with the dog.

The damage is estimated to be between $8,000 and $10,000, according to the statement.

When deputies responded to the shelter at 7272 S. Eagle St. in Centennial, they found the front door shattered.

The sheriff’s department investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify the woman. If caught, the woman will face charges of felony criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

If you recognize the woman or have any information on this crime, please call the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Tip Line at 720-874-8477. You can remain anonymous.
