AURORA | The driver linked to a fatal Aurora car crash Sunday faces two counts of vehicular homicide, police said.

Police said Olvin Lidenis Carcamo-Meza, 18, of Aurora, was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Aurora Municipal Detention Center. He awaits being formally charged by Arapahoe County prosecutors.

Two people were killed and others injured when Carcamo-Meza, driving an Audi sedan, ran a red light, colliding with a Hyundai sedan and killing both occupants, police said.

The crash occurred at about 2:45 a.m. in the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and Airport Boulevard and three cars were involved.

Police said a woman, 37, and a girl, 15, were inside the Hyundai, westbound and crossing the intersection with a green light, when Carcamo-Mezai, 18, and his 16-year-old female passenger, ran through the red light at a high rate of speed, slamming into the Hyundai.

The woman and girl in the Hyundai were “pronounced dead at the scene,” by rescuers, police said in a statement.

Carcamo-Meza was seriously injured during the crash and taken to a nearby hospital. The girl inside his car had minor injuries.

The driver of a third car, which was waiting in a left-turn lane at the time of the crash, also received minor injuries when one or both of the cars collided with his.

“Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash,” Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement Thursday. “Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol. Additional charges are pending further investigation.”

Police did not detail what those charges might be.

  1. Speed and failure to see a RED signal are contributing factors.

We look for approaching vehicles at such intersections, especially athatime of night.

  2. Olvin Lidenis Carcamo-Meza, 1) clearly 2) should-3) maybe 4) somewhat likely 5) no worries). Pick one and watch which option officials prefer this time around in a death case. Different standards of perspective that demand justice exist in Arapahoe County. Let’s throw in the stolen car as APD chews further into this, we’ve seen that one before. Any LMAO motion seems to work more and more now days in the Arapahoe 18th community?

  3. Man, these guys really love flying through intersections at high speeds after the light turns red.
