AURORA | An unidentified man was shot and injured early Monday during what police said was a road-rage incident on I-225 near Colfax in Aurora.

Police were contacted by a local hospital at about 1:45 a.m. after a man arrived there for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunfire-related injury.

“The incident was originally reported in Denver, but follow-up investigation determined the shooting occurred on northbound Interstate 225 near Colfax Avenue,” Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting happened at about 1:30 a.m., police said.

“Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who was driving on northbound I-225 near Colfax about 1:30 a.m. this morning and observed a dark red or burgundy Mercedes Benz driving recklessly,” Moylan said.

Officers did not detail how the shooting unfolded.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
