AURORA | An unidentified woman likely faces criminal charges after a passenger in the car she was driving was killed after being ejected during a crash early Sunday.

Police said the woman, 23, was driving a Kia K5 east on East Quincy Road near Richfield Street at about 3 a.m. when the crash occurred.

The woman’s car “veered off the roadway, jumped a curb, and struck a light pole,” police said in a statement. “The passenger, a 27-year-old man, was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. He died at the hospital.”

The woman was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of “non-life-thereatening” injuries, police said.

“No arrests have been made, but charges are expected,” said Aurora police spokesperson Agent Matthew Wells Longshore in a statement.

The road was closed for several hours during an investigation and reopened Sunday morning.

The death is the fifth traffic-related fatality this year.
