AURORA | Police today released a sketch of a man suspected accused of impersonating a police officer and pulling a woman over in late March.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. March 31 on East Alameda Avenue near South Havana Street, police said.
A woman told investigators she was driving east on Alameda when she noticed a black sedan, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria, pulled in behind her with a flashing red dome-style light flashing.
The woman, believing she was being pulled over by a police officer, pulled into an apartment complex parking lot at Alameda and South Jamaica Street, police said.
As the man approached her vehicle, the woman said she noticed he was wearing a uniform, but didn’t have a badge or any patches that would indicate he was a police officer.
The man told the woman he stopped her for speeding, but she became suspicious and asked for the man’s badge number. The woman said the man then grabbed her by the hair and tried to take her keys from the ignition, police said.
The woman punched the man in his face and he fled the scene, police said.
Police described the man as a black male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a slim build. Police said he has a distinctive two-inch scar on his left cheek, short black hair and a deep voice. He was wearing a dark-colored uniform shirt, dark pants with a belt and fingerless gloves, police said.
