AURORA | Aurora police say an employee at Rangeview High School accidentally shot a student in the leg in a campus parking lot after school hours.
Police spokesman Frank Fania says the employee, who is not a teacher, accidentally shot the student when he was moving a gun to the glove box of his vehicle shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday. The employee has a second job as an armed security officer not associated with the school district.
According to KMGH News 7 reports, about an hour after school let out for the day, the student was getting a ride home from a school employee who also works a second job as an armed security officer, according to police. The employee was trying to put his gun into the glove box of the car when the weapon fired, hitting the student in the leg.
The man drove the student to a nearby hospital, arriving around 4:30 p.m., police said. The student was rushed into surgery with what police described as a “significant injury” to his leg.
The student is expected to survive.
Police said the driver works at the school but is not a teacher, and he and the student know each other, police said. It is unclear if any charges will be filed against the employee.
The names of the student and the employee have not been released.
Detectives have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or know anything else about it to contact Detective Dave Van Nostrand at 303-627-3246 or Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.

The parents of the injured boy will most definitely sue this clown and/or file charges against him. The article states: “The employee has a second job as an armed security officer not associated with the school district.” Does that mean he was a security officer at a private business, mall, CVS, Walmart, etc.?
If you do not place your finger on the trigger of a modern handgun, it will not fire. This is not an accident, it is negligence! Many questions need to be addressed, but this is the bottom line.
