AURORA | A 15-year-old boy faces murder charges after a gun he and two other teens were playing with discharged, injuring the shooter and fatally wounding his friend, police said.
A third 15-year-old boy drove both of the injured boys to an emergency room at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday for treatment.
“Preliminary information suggests that one teen was playing with a gun when it went off, striking himself and the other teen,” Aurora police Agent Matt Longshore said in a statement.
“The shooter was later arrested” and faces second-degree murder charges, police said.
Charges filed by the Adams District Attorney’s office are forthcoming. Investigators are working to determine how the teens got the gun. Investigators said the two boys know each other, but the nature of their relationship was not released.
Police said that it was not immediately clear whether the boys were inside or out of a mobile home at Hillcrest Village mobile home park at 1600 Sable Boulevard.
Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.

“Murder” is intentional. This is said to be accidental (if all 4 boys have the same story). I don’t advocate horseplay with firearms from teenagers or otherwise, but this is excessive. DAs love to over-charge and splatter with anything/everything they can think of to get plea bargain convictions that promote their careers.
Sounds like negligent homicide to me…? Poor kid. Hanging with friends and ends up dead. Sad.
“working to determine how the teens got the gun” That’s the bottom line. What’s the parents’ role in this? A connection? A lot of questions for the parents and perhaps criminal exposure.
