Pickens Technical students set a record for earning Microsoft Office industry certifications earlier this summer, after more than 40 students picked up certificates from the vocational school in Aurora.

In June, 42 Pickens Technical students from the Aurora Public Schools district earned specialized training in Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint programs, with many of the students completing certifications in more than one of the programs. The Pickens students were members of the school’s Business and Medical Office program, and their completion rate was nearly twice what it was in 2011.

Pickens, located at Airport Boulevard and 6th Avenue, enrolls students from APS and the Colorado Community College System and offers about 50 certificate programs. Most certificates earned at the school are transferable to any community college or area technical college in the state.
