AURORA | One person is dead and two others were severely injured in a high-speed collision Wednesday afternoon, June 8, in Aurora.

Police and fire units were called about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday to the 25200 block of East 56th Avenue after a driver heading westbound lost control, went into the eastbound lane and collided with another vehicle.

Upon arrival, rescuers saw that the force of the collision “ripped the front end off” the westbound vehicle, according to Sgt. Craig Baumfalk of the Aurora Police Department’s traffic section.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the westbound vehicle that crossed over into oncoming traffic are expected to survive despite sustaining severe injuries in the collision. They were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash, and the westbound vehicle has been deemed at fault for the collision.

The name of the driver killed has not been released pending positive identification by the coroner’s office and notification of next of kin.
