AURORA | Newly elected District Attorney George Brauchler has added a fifth lawyer to the team of prosecutors on the James Holmes case.
Dan Zook, who has prosecuted several death penalty cases as a deputy district attorney in Colorado Springs, will join a team of four prosecutors who have been on the case since Holmes’ arrest following the July 20 theater shootings.
In a statement announcing Zook’s hiring, Brauchler said Zook is an experienced prosecutor well-versed in capital cases.
“Dan is the most experienced death penalty prosecutor in the state of Colorado and a national expert on these cases. He brings a wealth of talent to our office and will be a valuable addition to our team. His career shows his dedication to achieving justice for the people of the state of Colorado,” Brauchler said.
Holmes is facing more than 160 charges, including 12 counts of first-degree murder stemming from the Century Aurora 16 shootings, which left 12 dead and 70 injured.
