GARDEN CITY, N.Y. | Nassau County police officers will be deployed at theaters featuring the new Batman movie.
A spokeswoman says canine units, emergency services personnel and members of the department’s special operations unit will patrol theaters.
This comes in the wake of the mass shooting in Colorado at a theater where “The Dark Knight Rises” was showing. The violence erupted at the midnight opening of the movie in a Denver suburb. A suspect is in custody.
The Nassau effort follows an announcement from NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly that extra security would be deployed at theaters in New York City as a precaution against copycats.
A spokeswoman for the Suffolk County police had no immediate information Friday afternoon on its plans.
