AURORA | More than 15 years after Kimmy Greene disappeared from her Aurora apartment, her husband, who the family has long suspected killed her, is facing a murder charge.
Michael Jim Medina, 41, was indicted by an Arapahoe County grand jury this spring and is due in court next week for a hearing related to the charge. He is already serving a 48-year prison sentence for the 2005 killing of his 2-year-old son, Degan, in Rio Blanco County.
Investigators never found Greene’s body after she was last seen Oct. 29, 1996, and police this week declined to say what changed in the case and led to Medina’s indictment. A spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office said documents in the case are sealed.
But investigators took a closer look at Medina after Degan’s death when his new wife came forward and said Medina confessed to Greene’s killing.
According to court documents, Medina’s wife said in the days before he killed Degan, a shaking and sobbing Medina laid out a detailed confession to her about how he killed Greene. The woman said Medina told her about the crime to prove to her he was capable of killing Degan.
According to the woman’s story, Medina said he believed Greene cheated on him so one morning in October 1996, he drove to a field and dug a hole.
Later, he, Greene and the two girls piled into Medina’s truck and drove to the field.
While the girls slept in the back of the truck, Medina and Greene stepped out to talk about their deteriorating relationship.
As they talked, Medina stepped back and pulled a baseball bat from his coat. He told Greene: “You should have never cheated on me,” then he smashed her over the head with the bat.
He bludgeoned her several times and while she was alive, rolled her into the hole and stripped her naked.
Medina said Greene was alive and he could hear her gurgling and breathing as he buried her.
Aside from the purported confession, investigators also found a journal entry Medina wrote that said Greene was dead. That detail was important, investigators said, because Medina had long contended Greene wasn’t dead but had simply run away.
Sources said an Arapahoe County grand jury took up Greene’s disappearance in 2007, but the case was slow to develop after that.
Then, this year, the grand jury handed down its indictment, charging Medina in March with first-degree murder after deliberation. State records list the date of the murder as Oct. 29, 1996, the day Greene was last seen at her Aurora apartment.

He could never been free to walk among us. Then he kills his 2 year old son. If he was put away for his wife’s murder he would never been able to kill his son. I feel so sorry for his daughter because they know what he did to their mom no telling what he put them threw over the years
Mr. Medina should receive the death penalty for killing his ex-wife and his son.
We need closure for my neice Kimmy.. I pray that he just tells where he buried her ~ so my family can at least get closure! This has been long ENOUGH Mike.. we need to put this behind us and move on with our lives!

We shouldnt judge we were not there we did not live with them to know or how there relationship was. people are so quick to judge, Karma will come back to the people who talk when they do not even know what is going on.

I know how it was. He was a womanizer, very controlling, and would snap in an instant. He killed a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend. Watch it on Dr.Phil (missing mom part 1)then tell me you wouldn’t judge him! Kim loved her babies, and he is guilty as charged!
Smurfblue. I was a friend of Mike and Kim when their two girls were still in diapers. I worked with Mike for 3 years. I also knew Becky. I wanted to believe him about the story he told about his wife leaving, and did. Ever since he took his son’s life, I have changed my stance on that. I was not there all the time with Kim and Mike (no one was but them), but I did help Kim get herself and the girls out of their apartment the day Mike hit her when she told him that she had cheated on him. I was also there the next day to pick Mike up when we was released from jail. We don’t know all the facts and probably never will, unless Mike shares them. But there are facts and a history of violence with Mike.
Others sharing their feelings and thoughts should not be considered being quick to judge. It has been 15 years. If Mike admitted to murdering Kim (to Becky) and then kills his own son a few days later, one can only conclude that he is guilty. If you choose to wait for a body to be discovered or for Mike to admit guilt on record, that is your choice.Karma comes back to everyone for how they live (good or bad – if you believe in Karma). Bad Karma comes on those who speak falsely and/or wrong others with intent not on those who are stating an opinion or feeling they may have about someone or a subject. It sounds to me that the few comments left below are ones from individuals who have had some type of relationship with Mike and may have some insight into he and his wife’s relationship.
Wow, I can’t believe all things we read on this case. Mike n Kimmy n baby lived with us for over a month. They are not the same people described in your report. Mike worked all day and came home and did everything for the baby and was the model of a perfect father, husband, and employee and knowing Mike((as we did)it came naturally to him. He was planning to take Kimmy to Fla to see her mother- she had never met. From the home life she grew up in it sounded like she had to raise herself. No one cared if she came or went. Said she was not close to any family members. She hoped to get some answers in Fla. Mike had taken on a lot since Kimmy as sweet as she was, while here had no domestic skills. They got along like peas and carrots. Dr Phil lost credibility with me when he asked Mikes teenage dtr on natnl tv did she think Mike killed Kimmy (n they were living with Becky at the time). Wow– Since when is that ok!! Also, who has ever seen a 2 yr old or 3 yr old talking or making a drawing. Speech can be hard to understand and PINK isn’t one of their main colors in their vocabulary as they cover a whole page in scribble. I’m just saying….. there are two sides to every story. I don’t judge Mike until he tells me the facts and If he could ever get out of prison he could come live with our family again, anytime. Now, I’ll go back to believing nothing that I here-and half of what I see!! We Still Love the Medina family and pray nothing political or vindictive is happening to him. Gracefulle – You have no idea what you are talking about… I grew up with Kimmy and we were raised together. She was never left to raise her self and her mother Lori was a great mother and Kimmy was her daughter. Kimmy and I had many conversations before her coming missing and not once did she ever talk about a desire to see her birth mother. Lori was her mother period. I know what happened and how Mike treated her. So how dare you come on here and talk like you know what your talking about. Shame on you!!!
I can tell you Gracefulle.. My Neice knew her family well.. You were fooled by lies that mikes told you.. kimmy loved her mother & brothers in Florida.. We all have pictures of that to prove that she knew everyone of her family members.. She hung out with her mother & brothers in Florida.. I beg to differ on the raising of herself.. She had a wonderful father,mother, even step family that she was very close to.. I think you’ve been blinded by the man that not on my killed his only son.. But killed and buried alive (even admitting it) my Neice. Until the day we have closure and he dies.. We will fight for kimmy and both those girls!
I am so over this! Kimmy was a Loving daughter, sister, Mommy before Mike stole her from them. Kimmy never knew her birth mom. She met her again when she was 10 years old. She spent two weekends with her and wasn’t happy there and chose not to go back. Her birth mom didn’t pursue it. She was raised, loved,and nurtured by her Dad John, her Mom Lori, with her brother’s and her sister. All the pictures hanging around the house showed what a great time this family, and how much they all Loved,laughed,and enjoyed each other. Mike stole Kimmy from her girl’s, her Dad and Mom, her sister Kindra, her brother’s Joe, Kevin, and Kyler, along with numerous Aunt’s and Uncle’s, cousin’s. Mike stole away Becky’ s son. Mike Medina is Pure Evil!! I wear a bracelet with Kimmy on it, and I will until we can lay her to rest. I know our God is a forgiving God, but Mike hasn’t ask for forgiveness and for that reason he will burn in Hell.

I am an aunt of Kimmy.. She did know & love her mother Latricia and also her brothers from Florida, there are lots if pictures of them and filled with joy & happiness. Kimmy loved Lori as well I’m not saying this.. But I will have you know.. John & Latricia still communicate quite frequently and share a love that no one will ever break.. Regardless of this hear say of what Kimmy went thru with her mom & dad.. She loved BOTH OF THEM.. How do you know how many weekends she spent with her and what her feelings were like? Kimmy isn’t here to defend herself.. But I will defend my family.. God says vengeance is mine.. Mike will get what’s coming to him when he’s faced in the courtroom on trial on the same date she disappeared many years ago.. Until then.. God bless you and I forgive you for saying those negative comments about her mom not pursuing her.. She did.. They had a relationship.. Regardless.. Latricia is her birth mom.. She will always be.. Those girls know who their grandma is too..
Jacquie, i think you misunderstood what I was saying.I know that Latricia gave birth to Kimmy. I also know that Kimmy left her birth mom at the age of a little over a year old, and Lori raised Kimmy from then on. Kimmy met her birth mom again at the age of 10. I am sure Kimmy had some kind of Love for Tricia, but her Love for her Mom and her heart was with Lori. No Kimmy isn’t here to defend herself because Mike took her away from everyone, including her birth mom. I pray for the day that John, Lori, Tricia, her brother’s and sisters,and above everyone her BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER’S get the justice they deserve. I will be there for everyone, and pray to be able to see Michael Medina ROT IN HELL for what he has done to all concerned. KIMMY AND DEGAN WILL FINALLY GET JUSTICE.
