AURORA | A motorcyclist died Monday after police say he crashed his motorcycle before being run over by a semi truck on Interstate 70.

According to a statement from Aurora police, the crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on eastbound I-70 between Airport Boulevard and Tower Road.

Police said two motorcyclists tried to pass a semi truck before a construction zone and the two bikes collided, causing one rider to lose control. The out-of-control bike slammed into construction zone barrels and the biker was thrown into the path of the semi, police said.

The rider died at the scene.

Police said the other biker and the truck driver were unharmed. Names of those involved have not been released.

Neither biker was wearing a helmet, police said, but both had helmets strapped to their bikes.
