AURORA | A security guard and an armed robbery suspect exchanged gunfire Monday morning, July 25, at a bank near East Mississippi Avenue and South Sable Boulevard, according to Federal Bureau of Investigation officials.
FBI Denver Division spokeswoman Deborah Sherman said a 38-year-old man tried to hold up an armored Brinks truck that was parked near the drive-through and ATM lanes of the Wells Fargo Bank, 999 S. Sable Blvd., about 7:45 a.m. Monday.
The suspect, after being shot by the security guard, fled on foot from the scene. Aurora police then followed the suspect’s trail of blood and apprehended him. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force has taken over the investigation from Aurora police. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the tip line at 720-913-7867.
Sherman said the suspect’s name is being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation, but that he will face state and/or federal charges.
