Memorial fund established for late Aurora police officer Dave Hutchings

AURORA | A memorial fund has been set up for a decorated and well-known Aurora police officer who died earlier this month.

Officer Dave Hutchings, 45, died Dec. 4, according to an obituary. He had been an Aurora police officer since 2003 and had been recognized for his work with refugees in northwest Aurora.

A fundrzr.com page set up to cover funeral expenses and to raise money for Hutchings four children has so far raised more than $1,400.

As a police area representative in the far northwest corner of the city, Hutchings worked closely with the neighborhood’s refugee and immigrant populations. He helped start a neighborhood watch program for refugees and in 2012 received the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian of the Year Award for his efforts.
