AURORA | A 31-year-old Aurora man was convicted of second-degree murder last week for gunning down another man outside an Aurora apartment complex in July 2014.

Kenneth Wayne McCoy had been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the July 9, 2014 slaying of Larry Morehead, 32, outside an apartment complex near East 13th Avenue and Xanadu Street. Jurors returned a guilty verdict on the lesser charge.

McCoy’s sentencing has not yet been scheduled. He is due in court Nov. 12 for a status conference.

At a preliminary hearing last year, witnesses testified that there were several people outside the apartment complex when the shooting happened, but at least one witness said it was so dark it was hard to see the gunman.
