AURORA | Becky Hogan, the widow of former mayor Steve Hogan, announced a bid for a city council seat this week.
Hogan, 62, said she’s running for an at-large seat on Aurora’s city council, where she would represent the entire city. There are four such seats on the city council.
In a press release, Hogan said her experiences as an adopted immigrant from Korea, a small business owner and a longtime civic booster qualify her for an at-large seat. Hogan is a registered Republican.
“Being adopted gives me a greater sense of the meaning of family,” she said in an email. “Aurora is my family. As a council member, I will protect, I will defend, I will admit to failures, and I will share successes, because that is what families do.”
She touted the endorsement of former Mayor Bob LeGare, who succeeded Steve Hogan after his death in 2018.
“Becky Hogan has selflessly served our community for years. She is thoughtful with her decision making and will be a strong voice for Aurorans,” he said.
The race for an at-large seat, and others on the city council, continues to heat up.
Other at-large candidates so far include Dustin Zvonek, a former Congressional aide to Mike Coffman and conservative campaign donation conduit; progressive Democrat and mail carrier Adam Fung; Democrat John Ronquillo, an academic and civic presence; and small business owner and veteran Danielle Jurinsky.
Activist and civic board member Candice Bailey also said she’s aiming for an at-large seat. But she can’t legally run in Aurora because of a two-decade-old felony conviction. Bailey wants to see that rule removed.

Gun control especially assault rifles, etc. would be the first step to minimize the number of critical injured and death.
