AURORA | Police say they arrested an Aurora man suspected in a fatal shooting early Sunday, reportedly the result of an earlier domestic violence episode at a north-central Aurora apartment.

Investigators on Monday said they found and arrested Michel Jordan Castellano-Fonseca, 30, who they say shot and killed a 26-year-old woman at about 3 a.m. at Aurora Meadows apartments in the 1000 block of Cimarron Circle.

“The preliminary investigation by APD’s Major Crime Homicide Unit suggests the shooting stemmed from a possible domestic violence incident, after which Castellano-Fonseca threatened to return to the apartment complex with a firearm,” Aurora Police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement.

Investigators said there were two adults and five children inside the apartment, ages 1 to 15.  Castellano-Fonseca fired “several shots” after breaking into the apartment

“One of the victims, a 26-year-old woman, sustained fatal wounds and died at the scene,” Moylan said.” A second victim, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. None of the children were injured during the shooting.”

Police said Castellano-Fonseca left the scene in a green Acura MDX SUV bearing a Colorado license plate, CV0668.

Fonseca was captured at about 6 a.m. after police asked for the public’s help in finding him, saying he was ” considered armed and dangerous,” Moylan said. “

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
