AURORA | Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver they say struck and killed a man pushing a grocery cart in a busy southeast Aurora street Wednesday morning.
Officers were called to the area of East Hampden Avenue, just east of South Picadilly Road, at about 6 a.m. by motorists who reported a person lying in the road, Aurora Police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said in a statement.
“The investigation revealed that an adult man was pushing a shopping cart in the eastbound lane of East Hampden Avenue, just east of Picadilly,” Easterwood said.
An eastbound vehicle struck the man and the driver left the scene.
“The man suffered significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died,” Easterwood said.
Police said they are searching for witnesses and details about the crash.

Surely there were witnesses at 6 a.m.
A grocery cart? No grocery stores in the area.
Eastboundriver blinded by the rising sun?
Man intoxicated by drugs or alcohol?
Sorry that he died.
There is a Walmart Neighborhood Grocery Store at the Corner Quincy and Piccadilly not too far from the area. There are no sidewalks, no lights there. People are always hanging out at the empty lot there. So sad.
Far more people are killed by cars than by guns. So when are they going to advocate for banning cars?
