AURORA | A man who lead police on a high-speed chase last year from Longmont to Douglas County — and through Aurora — has been sentenced to 160 years in prison.
Ryan Cole Stone was convicted last spring of several charges, including attempted manslaughter, assault, child abuse and car theft stemming from the 90-minute chase in March 2014.
According to prosecutors, Stone stole a Ford Focus that was running outside a Longmont gas station around 6:30 a.m. There was a 4-year-old child in the car when Stone drove off, prosecutors said.
Stone crashed the Ford into a minivan on Interstate 76 and stole the van after dragging the driver out by her legs. He then sped through Aurora on E470 toll road, hitting a State Trooper near Chambers Road, breaking the trooper’s leg.
Stone struck several more cars before fleeing on foot and being arrested by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies near Lincoln Avenue and Peoria Street.
Prosecutors said 12 different law enforcement agencies worked on the case.
“In jail, he bragged about mimicking a video game. On our roads, he put himself above the safety of everyone—men, women, and children. In beginning a 160-year sentence in prison, he is experiencing the part not shown on the video game,” Brauchler said in a statement.
