AURORA | A man died Sunday after crashing a speeding car into a median near South Chambers Road and East Alameda Avenue, police said.
The man, whose name has not been released, was alone in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo around 5:50 p.m. headed south on Chambers when he slammed into a curb, police said. The impact sent the car sliding sideways into a concrete retaining wall near an underpass along the Highline Canal.
Police said the man was wearing his seat belt but was pinned in the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, police said, and investigators are looking at whether drugs and alcohol were involved.
The man’s name will not be released until next of kin is notified.
