AURORA | A man who police say barricaded himself in an apartment Tuesday, leading to an almost 8-hour standoff with police, wasn’t the suspect they were looking for after a reported domestic dispute, but he’s still facing two misdemeanors and one felony charge. Police are still looking for a man in a separate, but nearby incident.
Gary James Revis, 24, was arrested around 9 a.m. after police say he held a woman and four children in the apartment at 1921 Clinton St. against their will. In a statement Tuesday afternoon, police said Revis is being charged with misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment and failure to leave premises and a felony count of being a felon in possession of a gun.
Another man, Anthony West, 37, is facing a domestic violence charge in connection with the incident but police said they have not located him.
The ordeal started around 1 a.m. when police were called to an apartment on the first floor of the apartment building on a report of domestic violence. There, police found a woman who was injured, but West, the man suspected of assaulting her, had left the scene. The woman was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, police said.
About a half hour later, police received a second call from the apartment building. This time, a man called and said West had returned to the building. By the time officers arrived, West was gone but witnesses told them West had brandished a gun and gone into apartment 204.
A witness told police that when he knocked on the apartment’s door West came out and threatened him and again brandished the gun.
Officers canvassing the scene saw a man in a hallway who matched West’s description, but when they approached, he ran into apartment 204 and refused to come out. Police say that man turned out to be Revis.

Aurora police Sgt. Chris Amsler, a spokesman for the department, said that because police believed there was a gun involved, they stayed a safe distance away, evacuated the building and tried to contact the man.
Eventually, police contacted a woman in the apartment who told them she and four children inside wanted to leave the apartment, but the man there wouldn’t let them, police said.
Around 9 a.m. relatives were able to reach the man via telephone, Amsler said, and he surrendered. Police searched the apartment and found a handgun, Amsler said.
Police are still looking for West and Amsler said charges against him are pending. Police described him as a black male about 5 feet 8 inches tall weighing 186 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His mug shot was not released.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about West to call police or they can remain anonymous and call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
