AURORA | Police arrested a 23-yar-old man Thursday night who they say shot two people on East Colfax Avenue earlier this week.
Mickell Johnson, 23, was arrested around 9:15 p.m. Thursday on several charges, including attempted murder, police said.
Officers from the department’s fugitive team and the Gang Unit arrested Johnson, police said.
Police say Johnson was inside a black car Tuesday and opened fire on two people near Colfax and Kingston Street.
The two people wounded are expected to survive, police said. Police said the victims recognized Johnson, but they did not detail what their relationship was.
Aurora police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson said detectives continued to investigate the shootings and more arrests could be coming.
Police did not release Johnson’s mug shot.
According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Johnson has one previous arrest in Colorado. That came in 2005 when he was arrested in Arapahoe County on kidnapping, robbery, weapons and menacing charges. Johnson was only 16 at the time but charged as an adult. He accepted a plea deal with prosecutors that dropped most of the charges and sent him to Department of Corrections’ Youthful Offender System for seven years, records show.

I think it is time for the Chief of Police to start issuing the good Citizens of Aurora Concealed Weapons Perrmits so they can protect themselves from all the shooting currently going on in Aurora. 600 Police Officer can not be everyplace to protect the Citizens, but add in another 1,000 to 3,000 good Citizens with weapons, it makes for a little safer place to live.
