AURORA | A 57-year-old man was shot dead Sunday night in central Aurora and the shooter left the scene before police arrived, police said.
Police were called to the area of the 900 block of South Peoria Street at about 10:45 p.m. after reports of a shooting there.
“When officers arrived on the scene, they located a 57-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound,” police said in a statement. Rescuers said the man was dead when they arrived, and the shooter had apparently left before they got there.
“At this early stage in the investigation, the facts and circumstances that led up to the death, to include suspect information, are still being determined,” police said. “There is no threat to the public.”
The dead man’s identity will be released by The Arapahoe County Coroner Office, which is standard police procedure.
It was the fourth reported shooting in three days in Aurora.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
